“Silent Angel Charm Bracelet”  (including 2009, 2010, 2011 charms)

It is with great pleasure that ORSA introduces a new collection piece that keeps on giving. This sterling silver bracelet, with all ‘silent angel’ charms included, is available to you for the purchase price of $25.00 plus shipping and handling. You can purchase this beautiful bracelet and give it to a loved one in honour of all our ‘silent angels’. You will not only be donating to a wonderful cause but, you will also give someone a beautiful gift of love.

Kathy Towers, a long standing ORSA Board member and mother of a beautiful young woman who has Rett Syndrome has graciously donated this charm bracelet to O.R.S.A in hopes that we pay tribute to all our wonderful silent angels that have touched our lives in a special way. Kathy choose Betty’s name as the first charm, as she was O.R.S.A.’s oldest Rett woman on record. When Kathy read of Betty’s passing in a 2006 newsletter she couldn’t help but wonder what she could do so that none of our angels would be forgotten. Every bracelet and charms will be a generous donation to the Ontario Rett Syndrome Association to help further support the mission of our organization for our families who care for their daughters with Rett Syndrome.

A Tribute to Betty
Betty was one of the oldest living ladies with Rett Syndrome in Canada. In December 2006 Betty passed away at the age of 59 in Stittsville, Ontario. Betty was 42 years old when she was diagnosed with Rett Syndrome by Dr. Patrick MacLeod. For many of us in the Eastern Ontario Chapter region Betty taught us it is never to late to introduce a communication system to our daughters. With the help of her dedicated group home support staff and a special speech therapist, Betty began to eye gaze to clothing and objects. She also told them with yes and no questions what novels she wanted to have read to her and the TV shows she wanted to watch.

Betty’s willingness to learn a communication method after 42 years of silence is very inspirational. Betty was truly a courageous lady.
