Code of Conduct

For over 33 years, the Ontario Rett Syndrome Association (O.R.S.A.) has sought to ensure that individuals diagnosed with Rett Syndrome, a genetic neurological disorder, are enabled to achieve their full potential and enjoy the highest quality of life. We are a volunteer, not-for-profit registered charity for parents, caregivers, researchers, medical professionals, and other interested agencies and individuals. O.R.S.A. funds and supports Canadian research initiatives, Rett syndrome clinics in Ontario, and the Canadian Rett Syndrome Registry. Both provincially and nationally, we strive to advocate for the needs of individuals with Rett syndrome and their families.

O.R.S.A. is committed to maintaining a safe and respectful online environment. We welcome constructive feedback and meaningful dialogue. However, we will not tolerate any form of defamation, harassment, or aggressive behaviour aimed at discrediting our organization or individuals associated with it.

Recently, our organization has been subjected to misleading and defamatory statements, as well as the harassment of some of our members, on emails and social media platforms. Such behaviour is unacceptable and violates our principles of respect, inclusivity, and professionalism. Any messages or comments that are deemed defamatory, harassing, or otherwise inappropriate will be promptly deleted and may result in user accounts being blocked.

The well-being and dignity of our volunteers, partners, and those we support is of the utmost importance to us. We remain open to collaborating with professionals, volunteers, and organizations where it is in the best interest of our community. O.R.S.A. is willing to address legitimate concerns and engage in productive conversations with all organizations. Some organizations operate on the principle that there are only limited resources and therefore must out-compete one another. We believe there is room for everyone, and we can work together towards a greater purpose.

We are transparent and wish to reassure our members, stakeholders, and those who depend on our services that we will continue to conduct business at the highest standards.

We encourage anyone who has witnessed unjust behaviour or has questions, to reach out to us through appropriate channels, including our website or designated contacts. Do note, the Ontario Rett family Group on Facebook is not appropriate channel, as this group is not affiliated with O.R.S.A.  We appreciate the continuing support and cooperation from our community, stakeholders, government representatives, medical professionals, and families. Together, we will uphold the values of integrity and respect that define O.R.S.A.

Sincerely,

Ontario Rett Syndrome Association
